📝 Abstract
Since first appearing in 1995, Java has been dramatically changed. It not only has kept to be pure object-oriented language, but also incorporated functional and declarative programming styles, thus becoming a multi-paradigm platform. Here in this paper, I review the coverage of lambda expressions, stream APIs, the module system, records, and sealed classes in the literature, and how the authors in the literature consider the usage of these features on the change of design practices and the improvement of maintainability (Bloch, 2018; Goetz, 2014). Firstly, by supporting deeper levels of abstraction, enabling immutability, and eliminating excessive repetitive code, these language features help to both make the code easier to read and maintain (Urma et al. 2015). Secondly, the modularization and encapsulation constructs that come with the new Java versions enable one not only to break down a system efficiently but also to keep the system editable and updatable over long periods. On the other hand, the problems still exist. For the older code, the new syntax might be difficult to adapt, and still, developers might be missing some of the necessary skills (Raemaekers et al. 2017). In the end, the new Java language features provide considerable theoretical and practical advantages, their implementation will really hinge upon the organization's development practices and developer willingness. .
